you’ve got some questions for us

Weddings are complicated. We know that. You’ve got a million things to keep track of and wedding videography is just another thing on the to-do list. We’ve put together this list of common questions that we’ve answered time and time again in our years of wedding filmmaking — hopefully these answer a lot of the things on your mind so that we can spend more time focusing on the details that make your wedding particularly special.

WHAT IS THE “BUFFALO FILM CO.” STYLE?

We are much more documentary than directed. Candid instead of staged. Our goal is to do all the talking before the big day so that by the time we arrive on site, you know what we’re doing and we know where to find you. We slip into the background, not to be seen or heard, but snagging those little moments of joy on your faces and in the eyes of your guests. We’ll coordinate closely with your photographer before and on the wedding day to make sure we get all the coverage of all the events we need without slowing down the day or stepping on their toes. We’ll always be accessible and there when you need us while being out of the way to let the day unfold.

Bottom line: we’re not here to be Steven Spielberg on the most important day of your life, we’re here to tell the story of you.

WHO WILL I BE WORKING WITH?

We are a team-based wedding film company. That means that when you hire Buffalo Film Co., to capture your day, you aren’t hiring a specific person or personality to capture your day, you’re hiring us as a team.

As our business has grown and expanded, Bailey Miclette, the founder and owner of Buffalo Film Co., has taken on associate shooters to allow us to serve more couples. These are super talented filmmakers who are technical experts and who are creative in their own right, but have trained under Bailey to learn how to capture weddings in the Buffalo Film Co. style. Having a team of multiple lead filmmakers means we can capture the most important moments for more than one couple on any given wedding day. We are incredibly particular about maintaining consistency in our shooting style amongst ourselves and have spent years ensuring that it does not matter which one of us is your lead shooter, as you’ll still get a film that has that signature Buffalo Film Co. look and feel to it.

That being said, Bailey still maintains control and oversight of all the coordination and post-production, so there is as minimal difference in a film shot by Bailey or one of the other Buffalo Film Co. lead shooters. From the moment you reach out to us to the moment we deliver your films, you’ll be coordinating and planning everything with Bailey, the only difference being that he may not be the lead shooter on your wedding day.

How much does it cost?

The old adage of “you get what you pay for” is absolutely something that applies to wedding films. We’ve got years of combined experience in the content world both behind the camera and in the editing bay (and not just in the wedding industry either!). Add on top of that our custom color grading that makes our videos look unlike any of our competitors and our top-tier camera and audio equipment that lets us adapt to any scenario regardless of how adventurous the wedding is, our packages are priced very fairly to compensate us for our time, knowledge, experience, and equipment. It’s how we pay our bills and make our living! Plus, and we may be biased here, we think we’re pretty fun to have around on your big day!

We offer packages starting at $4000. Our most popular packages land in the $4500 range before discounts are applied.
Did we mention that we give discounts for military, nurses, teachers, and paying in full?

wHAT IS YOUR TURNAROUND TIME?

Most couples will receive their film(s) no later than 6 weeks after the date of the wedding, and that’s on the long end. Typically it takes about three weeks to unload and sort through the footage (typically hundreds of gigabytes), sync up all the camera angles, mix audio from the ceremony, toasts, letter readings, vows, and speeches, cut together the footage to form a cohesive story of the day, color grade, then revise, revise, and revise. There’s a lot of work, expertise, and labor hours that go into crafting something wonderful for you, so we ask you to be patient with us as we cook up some movie magic!

Sometimes it gets crazy over here. During our busy season, we’ll often have up to 5 or 6 wedding films in editing at any given moment, on top of filming more weddings every week, and we feel that it’d be unfair to deliver a film that we feel isn’t ready. We’d rather spend the time making sure your film captures the magic of the day right off the bat, saving both you and us time by minimizing the need for back and forth revisions!

All this said, you’ll find that our 6-8 week window is still extremely competitive when compared to our peers. That’s the power of us being a team instead of hiring a solo wedding videographer. We’ve earned the trust and referrals of many wedding planners because we don’t take 6 months to deliver a wedding film. Yikes!

WHAT IS YOUR TRAVEL POLICY?

We’re based in Downtown Denver, putting us in a perfectly central spot both here in Colorado, and nationally to make our way to wherever you are. We’ve flown to all parts of the country to work with couples. Even if you’re looking to do something crazy like get married on top of a mountain, we can be there — we’re former backpacking guides and athletes so we’re very outdoors friendly!

We measure travel distance from our Denver office. Driving distance is measured by the Google Maps suggested route. This is a fair way to eliminate any distance variation between your venue and your lead shooter’s home address. Our policy is as follows:

  • For venues that are 99 miles or less, by car, one way, from our Denver office we do not require any travel fees or compensation.

  • For venues that are 100 miles or more, by car, one way, from our Denver office we require lodging for the night of the wedding be organized by and/or paid for by the client. We’re happy to book our own accommodations and just request reimbursement, or if you are housing other vendors and have it set up already, you can just add us in. We don’t need anything fancy — a Holiday Inn style hotel is fine with us, however, we do request separate sleeping arrangements for the lead shooter and assistant, separate rooms for privacy’s sake. This policy is strictly safety driven; driving for hours on mountain highways late at night in the dark, after 7+ hours on our feet, is a recipe for falling asleep at the wheel.

  • For venues that require flying and airfare we require airfare and two nights of lodging to be reimbursed by the client. We will select and purchase the flights for our lead shooter and assistant based on what will allow us adequate time to prepare equipment and arrive with time to scout the location and be ready to capture it in the best way possible. We will also require one rental car be reimbursed by the client for transportation to/from the airport, hotel, and venue.

If you feel as though your travel situation doesn’t fall into one of these categories, just ask! We’re super flexible and want to make sure we can make everything work!
